Inside The Single
A detail that changes everything
Sketch your idea, then lay the stones next to it. Eight small stones or one statement stone: see which colour belongs.
Open the pouch and work the clay while it's soft: roll it out, press in a texture, cut your shape. A drop of water keeps it smooth.
Press the stone into the soft clay, table facing up, until its widest edge sits just below the surface. The clay will hold it.
Let the piece dry completely, then fire it as the clay and stone instructions say. Brush and polish, and the colour sits in solid 999 fine silver.
The reveal
Straight out of the fire, every piece is matte white. Brush, burnish and polish, and ten minutes later it's solid fine silver.
Made at home
Reviews of our Silver Clay Kit, which comes with silver clay and a gemstone set.
The shaping took me longer than I expected. I kept changing my mind about the design! Happy with how it turned out, though, and having the tools together made getting started much easier.
We chose the Duo kit for a weekend at home. Both made completely different pieces and enjoyed comparing them as we went. Definitely an activity to give yourself a whole afternoon for.
I hadn’t noticed that the gas for the torch wasn’t included, so I had to pick that up first. Once I got going, I really enjoyed it. The little tools were especially useful for tidying up the edges.
Made a small pendant with one of the stones. Getting the shape right took some patience, but polishing the finished piece was so satisfying. I already have an idea for what I’d make with another pouch of clay.
I’d never made jewellery before, so I kept my first ring pretty simple. It’s slightly uneven, but I actually like that about it. Seeing the silver appear when I brushed it was my favourite part.
A little know-how
A few things worth knowing before you choose your bundle.
The Single: one 7 g pouch of silver clay and one gemstone set. The Duo: two pouches and two sets. The Trio: three pouches and three sets. A set is eight small stones or one statement stone. Tools are sold separately.
Yes. Choose one colour for each set: set 1 and set 2 for The Duo, set 1 to set 3 for The Trio. Repeats are allowed.
A set holds eight small stones. A statement stone is one larger stone: oval 9 × 11 mm or emerald cut 8 × 10 mm. The Duo gives you two sets, The Trio three, in any mix.
Only fire a stone when its supplied specifications explicitly confirm compatibility with your clay, temperature and firing method. Otherwise, use a suitable setting after firing. Follow the instructions for both the clay and the stones.
This bundle is clay and gemstones only. Tools and firing equipment are not included. If you are starting from scratch, explore the Silver Clay Kit.
