How can we help?

Everything about the kit, silver clay, stones, shipping and returns.

FAQs

The kit

Do I need any experience?

None. Metal clay behaves like modelling clay until the moment you fire it. The guide takes you from the first press to the final polish, and most people finish their first piece in a single afternoon.

Do I need a kiln?

No kiln, no workshop. You fire with the small setup on your own table. A clear table, daylight and 90 minutes are enough.

Do I need extra tools?

No. Everything you need for your first ring is in the box — from the ring gauge to the agate burnisher — plus a step-by-step illustrated guide.

What is the difference between the Starter Kit and the Duo?

Both come in one Atelaye box. The Starter Kit holds 7 g of silver clay, one gemstone set and the tools for one maker. The Duo holds 2 × 7 g of clay (14 g in total), two gemstone sets and selected tools doubled, for making together.

What can I make?

Rings, pendants, charms, ear pieces, small keepsakes — anything you can shape by hand at that scale. Many people begin with a simple band or a fingerprint pendant.

How many pieces can I make with one kit?

A little clay holds plenty of possibility. Each 7 g pouch is typically enough to make one simple ring, depending on your ring size and the width and thickness of your design. A smaller, slimmer ring may leave enough clay for a tiny charm, while a larger or chunkier design will need more.

For your first creation, we recommend planning one ring per pouch and letting any leftover clay inspire your next little detail.

Silver clay & firing

Is it really silver?

Yes. After firing, the binder has burned away and what remains is 99.9% fine silver — purer than sterling. It can be polished, worn and cared for like any other silver piece.

What is silver clay?

Silver clay combines fine silver particles, an organic binder and water. Shape it while it is soft; after correct firing, the binder burns away and the silver particles fuse into 999 fine silver.

Is the torch safe to use at home?

Yes, when used as described. You fire on the ceramic bowl included in the box, on a heat-safe surface, in a ventilated room. The piece is small and the firing takes about five minutes.

How should I store leftover clay?

Keep unused clay tightly sealed and protected from air to prevent it from drying out. Follow the care instructions supplied with your pouch.

Gemstones

How many stones are in a set?

A set holds eight small stones. A statement stone is one larger stone: oval 9 × 11 mm or emerald cut 8 × 10 mm. The Duo gives you two sets, The Trio three, in any mix.

Can I mix different colours?

Yes. Choose one colour for each set: set 1 and set 2 for The Duo, set 1 to set 3 for The Trio. Repeats are allowed.

Can I fire the stones in silver clay?

Only fire a stone when its supplied specifications explicitly confirm compatibility with your clay, temperature and firing method. Otherwise, use a suitable setting after firing. Follow the instructions for both the clay and the stones.

Does the 3D view show the exact stone?

The interactive view illustrates colour and a faceted cut. It is not a scan or a size reference. Colour can vary with lighting and your screen.
